About Us

Here at Canaan, we’re all about helping you make the connections that matters most.

Our Mission

The mission of Canaan Baptist Church is connecting you to what matters most— God, people, and purpose.

Our core values are the priorities derived from how Jesus led His ministry in the New Testament. As Christians, we are free from the bonds of this world, however we are still pulled in various directions by the culture with which we are constantly surrounded. In order to fulfill our mission we must prioritize what is good and honorable to God.

 Our Values

  • Everything Canaan teaches and does must be based on the Word of God. Our beliefs, policies, strategies, vision, relationships and ministries must be rooted in God’s Word despite any external pressures to compromise.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,” – 2 Timothy 3:16

  • God is looking for followers who worship Him in spirit and in truth—with mind and emotions. God—not man—is the focus and center of worship. We are to respond to Him in relationship by expressing our love, praise, honor, and adoration through worship—not just on Sunday but every day.

“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” – John 4:24-25

  • It is critical that we seek God first before we do anything else. We are here to serve Him and follow Him. As the Spirit leads us in prayer, we humbly ask for God’s direction, provision and protection as we seek to glorify Him and make disciples of the nations.

“praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,” – Ephesians 6:18

  • We value that God creates everyone with specific design. We are saved by grace to accomplish works that God has planned for each of us. We hold that our purpose and satisfaction in Christ are best lived out as we serve and accomplish those works He created us to do.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:8-10

  • More than 90% of believers responded to the Gospel when they heard it from someone they already knew. We value the importance of building genuine relationships through which come powerful opportunities to have Gospel conversations.

“One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, ‘We have found the Messiah’ (which means Christ).” – John 1:40-41

  • Sadly, most discipleship these days happens accidentally. Yet Scripture commands us to be purposeful with discipleship. That means we have a plan on how to reach the unsaved and grow them to maturity. Mature believers continue the legacy by discipling others.

“and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” – 2 Timothy 2:2

  • Membership matters. We are the body of Christ which means we are deeply committed to loving and serving one another. There are over 30 “one anothers” in the New Testament that move us to unity, love, humility and encouragement.

“For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” – Romans 12:4-18

 Our Vision

At Canaan, we have been praying for genuine revival. Revival is when God does a special work in the hearts and lives of His people — filling them with His Spirit. God brings us to repentance, giving us a boldness in telling others about Him, and provides us with a deep, passionate love for God and people. So, what would it look like at Canaan as we experience genuine revival? Vision2025 is what we believe God desires Canaan to look like as we passionately pursue God’s calling for our unified church family.

 What We Believe

  • There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. God is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise. God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

    Genesis 1:1, 26-27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:13

  • Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death and to prove that He would someday return to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

    1 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7, 14:16,17; Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16; Ephesians 1:13, Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

  • The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.

    2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13; 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

  • The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error. It is the final authority for our faith and practice.

    2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

  • People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.” This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

    Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2

  • Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

    Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1; John 17:3

  • Whether you believe once saved, always saved, or that you can lose your salvation, these two thoughts collide at perseverance. The bottom line is this, only those who are truly saved will persevere and only those who persevere are truly saved.

    John 10:28-29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25; 10:10, 14; 1 Peter 1:3-5

  • People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

    John 3:16; 2:25; 5:11-13; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15; Matthew 18:8-9; 25:46

  • Genesis 1-2 records the literal story of the creation of the world. Man was created directly in God’s own image. It was not a matter of evolution.

    Genesis 1:1-31; 2:1-25; John 1:3; Hebrews 11:3; Revelation 10:8

  • To live in harmony with other believers is clearly the teaching of the New Testament. It is the responsibility of each believer to endeavor to live in fellowship with each member of the congregation. It is further the responsibility of each member to bring all gossiping and backbiting to an end.

    John 13:34-35; Ephesians 4:1-3; 5:1-2; 1 Corinthians 12:13; 13:1-13; 1 John 3:14-18; 4:11; James 3:1-18

  • Baptism is a picture and an illustration—a symbolic act of having already given one’s life to follow Jesus Christ. Baptism by immersion best illustrates the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ on our behalf and our subsequent faith in Him. It is not necessary for salvation, but is strongly associated with salvation as it best illustrates our new identity with Jesus Christ.

    Luke 3:21; 1 Peter 3:21
